Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 spotted on public roads in Switzerland
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 made its public debut at Pebble Beach in August. Before it goes into production, engineers are busy fine-tuning the flagship convertible in the Swiss Alps.
Autoblog’s @rubenpriester recently spotted a convoy of Mercedes test cars at the Grimsel Pass. Among them were two Maybach SL 680s. As you can see, both prototypes have the launch spec with the ‘Red Ambience’ exterior, black bonnet, and chrome highlights.
Both cars appear to have matching interiors in a 2-tone of white and black. That being said, the test mules are riding on different wheels. The car in the front has a multi-spoke design, while the other has the classier option.
The Maybach SL uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels. Mercedes claims the posh SL can sprint from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 160 mph. It also gets rear-axle steering as standard.
