2025 BMW M5 is here; How does it compare with the old-gen?
We are big fans of German super sedans. However, these cars have put on a lot of weight lately, whether it’s the new Mercedes-AMG E63 or the latest generation of the BMW M5.
The G90 BMW M5 may be the most potent of the lot, but the plug-in hybrid setup does take a toll on the overall weight. So, how does the new M5 compare with the outgoing version?
The 2025 BMW M5 is powered by the familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the XM. It is paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.
The 8-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel drive system help the M5 reach 60 mph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds, and to a top speed of 190 mph when equipped with the M Driver’s Package. The plug-in hybrid system comes with a 14.8 kWh battery giving the car an electric range of 25 miles.
Promising figures right? Well, at 5,390 lbs, the new M5 is way heavier than the outgoing model. This is mainly due to the hybrid system with its bulky battery pack.
Design-wise, the new M5 looks just as muscular as its predecessor. It is based on BMW’s latest design philosophy with more edgy surfaces. The front features a large but proportionate grille which has an illuminated frame, LED headlamps with a new DRL signature and a sporty bumper. At the rear, you will find a set of slim LED taillights, a diffuser and quad exhausts.
Inside, the BMW M5 has a large curved display housing the digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen. There are body-hugging sports seats and a 3-spoke steering wheel has the customary red M mode buttons.
Prices for the 2025 BMW M5 start at $120,675 and deliveries will begin later this year.
