Lotus Evija X electric hypercar laps the Nurburgring in 6 min 24 seconds
The Lotus Evija X recently did a hot lap of the Nurburgring, setting a lap time of 6 min 24.047 seconds. While it’s faster than the current production car lap record of 6 min 30.705 seconds set by the Mercedes-AMG One, the Evija X is not road-legal. This puts it in third place behind the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO and the VW ID.R in the list of non-road legal vehicles that have lapped the Nordschleife so far.
The Lotus Evija X has been testing at the Nurburgring since June last year. It’s the track-focused version of the electric hypercar and features an upgraded aero package. It has a low-slung front splitter with additional canards on either side, extended side skirts and a massive spoiler at the rear.
While Lotus hasn’t revealed the exact specs of the Evija X, it could be powered by the same 4-motor electric powertrain as the standard car. This setup generates 2011 hp and 1257 lb-ft of torque. The standard Evija can reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph.
Lotus believes the Evija X can set a better lap time. We certainly hope so, as a 671 hp Volkswagen beating a 2000+ hp hypercar doesn’t make for good PR.
