Mercedes-AMG GT3 Extreme sets a new lap record at Mount Panorama
A slightly modified Mercedes-AMG GT3 Extreme has set a new lap record at the Mount Panorama Circuit ahead of the prestigious Bathurst 12 Hour race.
Mercedes-AMG Performance driver Jules Gounon drove the AMG GT3 Extreme around the 3.85 mile circuit at an average speed of 119 mph, completing the lap in 1 min 56.605 seconds – the fastest lap time ever set by a GT car.
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Extreme is an unrestricted version of the GT3 race car. Without the air restrictor, the 6.2-liter V8 produces 650 hp, and combined with a drag reduction system, the car reached a top speed of 192 mph on the Conrod straight. The ‘Extreme’ version also has a revised front apron, splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser.
The record was set on Saturday morning at 9:20 am local time to take advantage of the cooler air and track temperatures.
