McLaren GTS joins McLaren line-up as replacement for the GT
McLaren has revealed the replacement for the GT. The new McLaren GTS packs more performance and is lighter than the outgoing version.
The McLaren GTS is based on the brand’s MonoCell II-T carbon monocoque. The roof is made from recycled carbon fibre, which helps lower the centre of gravity. Moreover, the GTS is 10 kg lighter than the GT. At 1520 kg, the GTS is said to be the lightest in its class.
At its heart is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which now produces 626 hp @ 7500 rpm, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. 0-124 mph is dealt with in 8.9 seconds, and the top speed is 203 mph. The engine is mated with a 7-speed gearbox.
McLaren has also made subtle exterior modifications. The GTS gets an updated lower front bumper section with more pronounced intakes, wider intakes to channel air into the radiators, front air blades, new rear fenders and taller air scoops. The GTS also features a larger rear diffuser with dual exhausts.
McLaren offers the Comfort seats as standard on the GTS. The interior can be trimmed in ‘Performance’ and ‘TechLux’ schemes, offering multiple upholstery options. In the centre is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, while the driver gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument display.
