Lexus LFA trademark filed; 2nd-gen supercar in the works?

Lexus has filed a trademark for the ‘LFA’ nametag, leading to speculations that a second-generation supercar could be in the works.

The trademark application was filed in the US, Philippines, Indonesia and Israel in August 2023. Last year, the carmaker had also trademarked the ‘LFR’ name.

The Lexus LFA was a one-hit wonder that went into production in 2010. Only 500 examples of the flagship supercar were produced.

The LFA is known for its legendary 4.8-liter V10 engine. This naturally aspirated motor develops 552 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed single-clutch automatic transmission which drives the rear wheels. Today, a good example sells for well over half a million dollars.

Reports suggest that Lexus’ next-gen supercar could use a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain instead of the V10.
