Ford may build a Mustang GT3-inspired road car

The Ford Mustang GT3 race car made its debut at Sebring earlier this month. Now, Ford CEO Jim Farley has hinted that the carmaker is willing to build a road version.

Farley posted a video of the Ford Mustang GT3 lapping at Sebring on Twitter with the caption – “Should we make a road version?” The tweet soon received a tonne of replies from enthusiasts expressing their interest in a street-legal Mustang GT3.

The 2024 Mustang GT3 is based on the Mustang Dark Horse. Therefore, a toned-down road version of the race car seems technically possible. If Ford decides to build one for the enthusiasts, it would be positioned above the Dark Horse. It might be a great alternative to the Porsche 911 GT3, albeit with a totally different character.

Like the race car, which uses a tuned version of the 5.0-liter V8, the road version could also sport a Dark Horse-based V8 motor in a higher state of tune, as well as upgraded suspension. Visually, the road-spec Mustang GT3 could get a sporty aero package with a large rear spoiler.
