Exclusive! Bugatti Chiron Roadster could be the fastest open-top hypercar on sale
Last month, we told you that Bugatti had something special planned for Pebble Beach. With the Monterey Car Week just around the corner, we can expect a flurry of teasers in the coming days, including that of the Chiron Roadster.
The new open-top Bugatti will be the first of its kind based on the Chiron platform, wrapped in bespoke coachbuilt bodywork like the Divo and Centodieci. We expect it to feature a more classy look as opposed to the sport and aggressive design of the latter.
According to our sources, the Chiron Roadster is likely to get a fabric roof. We’ve also been told that its top speed will be limited to 155 mph with the roof in place. However, without the roof, it could reach 261 mph, making it one of the fastest open-top hypercars ever made.
The Chiron Roadster is said to be one of the final Bugatti models to feature the 8.0-liter W16 engine. It will also be the third model to use the mighty ‘Thor’ powertrain packing 1600 hp.
Rumors also suggest that Bugatti will build 99 units of the roadster. Despite the comparatively high volumes, the carmaker is likely to charge a healthy premium for it.
