Front-Engined Chevrolet Corvette C7 Production Ends
Chevrolet has built the last Corvette C7, marking the end of production of the front-engined model.
Chevrolet has been producing the front-engined Corvette for close to 7 decades. Therefore, it must’ve been a bitter-sweet moment for the workers at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant as an era draws to a close. The company posted this image on its Twitter announcing the end of production of the C7 generation.
“Some endings are bittersweet. The last #Corvette C7 – the end of an era – rolled off the line today,” Chevrolet said.
The last Corvette C7 to roll of the assembly line is a Z06 in 3LZ trim. It is finished in black and has black alloys with red highlights. The car has already been sold at a charity auction conducted by Barrett-Jackson earlier this year. It fetched a cool $2.7 million! You can read that story here.
This C7 Corvette Z06 is powered by a 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 engine that delivers 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed manual transmission. It’s capable of a 0-62 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds and will reach a top speed of 195 mph.
The new generation Corvette has its engine mounted in the middle and purists might differ in opinion. Recently, a C8 build slot was selling for double the MSRP on eBay, suggesting that demand for the car is high.
