Goodwood Festival of Speed: Ford GT Mk II is a Limited Edition Track Special
The Ford GT Mk II is a limited edition track special with more performance than the Le Mans winning race it takes inspiration from.
Ford has taken the wraps off the new Ford GT Mk II ahead of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is a track-only version of the Ford GT inspired by the Le Mans winning race car.
The Ford GT Mk II has been jointly developed by Ford Performance and Multimatic. It is said to be as quick as a GT3 car and is faster than a GTE-spec Le Mans racer. This car is all about on-track performance and downforce. It has a massive spoiler and an equally enormous diffuser at the back. It has a low front splitter with twin canards on either side. The ride height is similar to the GTE spec car, but it has a lower underfloor. Overall downforce is up by 400%.
The car is powered by a 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 700 hp. That’s 200 hp more than what the regulations permit at Le Mans. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that has been calibrated for track use. The scoop on the rear decklid channels air to the auxiliary engine, clutch and transmission coolers.
The Ford GT Mk II rides on 19-inch forged aluminium wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport racing tires. Brakes are provided by Brembo with 15.5-inch and 14.1-inch rotors at the front and rear respectively.
Only 45 examples of the track-only Ford GT Mk II will be built. Each one of these track weapons has a base price of $1.2 million.
