Audi R8 Competition to debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

This could be it. This could be the last of current generation Audi R8 supercar. It is the fastest and most powerful R8 till date and it is called, R8 Competition. What could be the last hurrah before the next-gen Audi supercar comes to the forefront, the R8 Competition will be launched next month at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Like most special editions, the R8 Competition will be built in limited numbers follows the introduction of the R8 LMX. The car is inspired from the Audi R8 LMS race car that tackles almost all of the endurance racing championships held across the globe. The engine is the same 5.2-liter V-10 naturally aspirated with an increased output of 570 hp compared to the R8 Plus which makes just 550 hp. 0-6- mph comes up in just 3.2 seconds and the top speed is 199 mph.

According to Audi U.S.A chief, the R8 Competition is the closest any road car can get to the R8 LMS race car. The car uses a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission and carbon ceramic brakes. Some of the aesthetic as well as functional updates include a fixed rear spoiler in carbon fiber, carbon engine bay cover, mirror housing, front splitter as well as a rear diffuser in the same lightweight material. All these upgrades have reduced the overall weight of the R8 making it quite a promising prospect to drive around a race track.
