Toyota LMP1 racer Kobayashi sets Fastest Ever Lap of Le Mans

Kamui Kobayashi set the fastest ever lap of Le Mans in a 2017 Toyota LMP1 prototype race car. The Japanese driver absolutely destroyed the previous best time set around the 8.6 odd mile Circuit de la Sarthe by Andre Lotterer in an Audi R18 TDI e-tron Quattro back in 2015.

Kobayashi registered a blistering lap of 3 min 14.791 at an average speed of 251.88 km/hr. Lotterer’s previous absolute lap record of 3 min 17.475 with an average pace of 248.45 km/hr stood for 2 years thus demonstrating how the 2017 prototypes have evolved, especially the Toyotas.

Toyota entered the Le Mans 24 Hours multiple times in the past. They came extremely close to winning on a couple of occasions. However, they have never won the world’s most celebrated race.

Toyota Gazoo Racing certainly seem to have the pace this year. But can they replicate this performance over 24 hours? We genuinely hope they will win this year.
