797 HP Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit Speed Trap Concept is a Madcap One-off!
A bit jealous of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, Dodge has built a one-off concept called the Durango SRT Pursuit Speed Trap which is more wicked than the Jeep.
You may have just completed reading our piece on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk which claimed the top speed record for SUVs on ice at an event held in Russia. Dodge and Jeep happen to be under the FCA umbrella and the Trackhawk is literally stealing all the thunder away from the 475 hp Durango SRT. The Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit Speed Trap Concept is Dodge’s way of saying that they can be crazier if they want to.
This custom Durango will be every cop’s wet dream. But, Dodge doesn’t have any plans at all to push this concept to production. So the chances of supercar owners seeing this law enforcer in their rearview mirrors are less. But it will certainly be spotted on American roads soon.
Specifically built to compete in the Tire Rack Brock Yates’ One Lap of America – a 4,000-mile, cross-country driving marathon – the Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit Speed Trap Concept will be fielded by David Hakim of Dodge Garage and David Carr of SRT Engineering. The duo finished 24th overall among the 50 participants of high-performance cars, with the 475 hp Durango SRT last year. Taking a look at this year’s weapon, they are certainly aiming for a higher spot on the leaderboard in 2019.
The edge clearly comes from the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 taken from the engine bay of a Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. That’s a 797 hp and 707 lb-ft unit. Did we notice a frown on the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk fans’ faces? Yes, we did. The Speed Trap Concept is way ahead of the 707 hp-churning Jeep in terms of the number of horses in its stable.
With superior Brembo brakes, a stainless steel cat-back exhaust, new headers and catalytic converters, 20-inch wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tires, and a lowered ride height, the Durango SRT Pursuit Speed Trap Concept will grab attention everywhere with its law enforcement livery and the whole light and sound drama straight out of a cop show. A four-point roll bar and five-point safety harness have been added in the relatively stock interior to follow race regulations.
In short, we are staring one of the biggest highlights of the Tire Rack Brock Yates’ One Lap of America scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 11, 2019.
