7-Speed Manual Gearbox Confirmed for 2020 Porsche 911
I can already feel the Porsche 911 enthusiasts among us breathing a sigh of relief.
Porsche has confirmed that the 911 for the 2020 model year will be offered with a 7-speed manual transmission. It will be available on the 911 Carrera S and Carrera 4S in both coupe and cabriolet body styles.
What’s more, Porsche will not charge you extra for checking the manual option. While, the new gearbox option won’t penalize your wallet, it will certainly affect the car’s performance. Porsche claims that the Carrera S will take 4 seconds to reach 60 mph instead of 3.3 seconds, when equipped with the dual-clutch automatic. However, top speed will be roughly the same.
The manual versions of the Porsche 911 will come fitted with the Sport Chrono Package. This includes dynamic drivetrain mounts, rev-matching function, PSM Sport mode and a mechanical limited-slip differential with torque vectoring. The car will also be considerably lighter.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera S and 4S will be powered by the same 3.0-liter, twin-turbo, 6-cylinder engine producing 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the 8-speed PDK, customers will get the option of a 7-speed manual. Whether the base 911 Carrera will get the manual gearbox remains to be seen.
