4th-gen Bentley Continental GT coming in June with hybrid power
The fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT is all set to make its global debut next month. The carmaker has released images of the pre-production prototype along with some information about its hybrid powertrain.
The first Continental GT of the modern era was introduced in 2002. Since then, the luxury coupe has featured either a V8 or a W12 engine under the hood. The new one though, will switch to a V8 hybrid powertrain.
According to Bentley, the new “Ultra Performance Hybrid” powertrain delivers 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. It will also be capable of covering up to 50 miles in pure-electric mode.
Bentley claims the new Continental GT will be the most dynamically capable road car the company has ever produced. It will be based on a new chassis with an active all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring, 4-wheel steering, an electronic Limited Slip Differential, 48V electric active anti-roll control and new, advanced dual-valve dampers.
On the outside, the new Continental GT looks more or less similar to the outgoing version. It has a long bonnet with flared wheel arches, a wide grille and oval headlamps. The rear features slim tail lamp units with the Bentley badge in the centre.
