3-Way Drag Race: Can Ford Mustang GT beat Toyota GR Supra and BMW Z4?
CAR Magazine South Africa makes the Ford Mustang GT fight with the BMW Z4 and the Toyota GR Supra in a 3-way drag race.
CAR Magazine South Africa grabbed a Toyota GR Supra, a BMW Z4 M40i Steptronic and Ford Mustang GT Fastback and cut them loose on a straight stretch of asphalt. Pitting the BMW-Toyota siblings which share the same platform with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine against the might of an American 5.0-liter V8 may seem a bit unfair. But what if we are in for a surprising result?
Ian McLaren, Senior Associate Editor of CAR South Africa takes charge of the proceedings, running us through the specs of the three machines. Since the test was conducted in South Africa, the sports cars are not in their respective US-specs.
The Ford Mustang GT for example, churns out 444 hp of power which is lesser than the 460 horses belted out by the US model. As for the siblings, both the Supra and the Z4 M40i produce 335 hp.
While the Mustang GT isn’t in the same category as the Supra and the Z4, its status as the world’s best-selling sports car and the relatively cheaper price tag make the muscle car a serious challenger for the BMW-based siblings to butt heads with.
We don’t play spoilsport, most of the time. So, find out in the video above on which one of these three front-engined, rear-wheel-drive automatic sports cars wins the 3-way fight.
