2023 BMW M2 dyno numbers are higher than brochure figures

The BMW M2 is one of the newest M cars on the block. The 2023 version has now been dyno tested by IND Distribution. Surprisingly, the results show that BMW has been underplaying the car’s performance numbers.

Stock BMW M2 : Details

BMW has equipped the M2 with a 3.0-liter, inline-six twin-turbocharged motor. This engine is rated by BMW to develop 453 HP and 406 lb-ft of max torque. This motor has been beefed up in comparison with the outgoing M2 Competition. Talking numbers, the new car develops 48 HP more than the older car. And, notably, 8 horses more than even the most powerful M2 CS.

Dyno Result by IND Distributors

As seen in the video, the dyno results are better than the numbers claimed by BMW. The results of the test show that the 2023 BMW M2 develops 465 HP and 412 lb-ft of peak torque. These are about 12 HP and 6 lb-ft more than the figures on the brochure.

The difference between the two numbers is not as dramatic as seen in the case of the M4 CSL. That said, one must wonder why there is such discrepancy in the first place. Is BMW trying to deliberately keep the figures low?

2023 BMW M2 : Price & Performance

Overall, the 2023 BMW M2 is not a cheap car. It will set back buyers by US$ 63,195, which includes the destination fee. In terms of weight, the M2 tips the scales at 3,867 lbs. Compared with the much larger M4, the car is just 112 pounds lighter and over 200 pounds heavier than the outgoing M2. However, the saving grace is a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. Not to mention, the M2 also comes with a very sweet exhaust note.
