2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible: How HEAVY is it?
Contrary to what many expected, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible is not much heavier than the coupe.
It’s raining C8 Corvette news these days. The latest in line is the weight of the convertible version and to everyone’s surprise, the drop-top isn’t too heavy compared to the coupe. Corvette Forum dug up the interesting piece of info from the official GM booklet. The same booklet had another number which the drag strip addicts will love – a quarter-mile dash in 11.3 seconds.
We were speaking of the weight, weren’t we? Cutting to the chase, the hardtop weighs 3,535 lbs and the convertible is slightly heavier at 3,637 lbs. That’s a 102 lbs increase which is not a huge difference when you draw parallels with other coupe-convertible siblings in the market now.
Shall we take a moment to applaud GM and its team of Corvette engineers for designing and building the C8 Corvette Stingray in such a manner that the roofless version doesn’t demand any additional strengthening? We should. Usually, drop-tops end up becoming a lot heavier than the hardtops. Somehow GM succeeded in chopping off the roof without increasing the weight significantly.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible will retain the same engine and tune of the coupe. A removable hardtop and a pair of spectacular buttresses are the major visual changes which set it apart from the hardtop.
