2019 New York Auto Show: Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition brings back Bayside Blue
The most popular color on the R34 – Bayside Blue – has made a sensational comeback with the 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition.
This year is significant for the Nissan GT-R as 2020 marks the 50th year of the Godzilla and the Japanese carmaker brought back one of the most iconic liveries to celebrate the anniversary. Splashing the Bayside Blue color which was last seen on the previous generation R34 GT-R, and throwing in white racing stripes, the 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition is Nissan’s way of celebrating the rich heritage of the Godzilla.
To ensure vivid blue with striking highlights and deep shadows, the four-coat paint has been applied with heat treatment. The color finds its way to the wheels as well in the form of subtle highlights. In case you happen to be among the rare species of Godzilla enthusiasts who aren’t in love with the Bayside Blue shade, the 50th Anniversary Edition is available in two other color schemes too – Pearl White with red stripes and Super Silver with white stripes.
Interior is finished in a special shade of gray and a bit unexciting to be honest. A single, seamless piece of hand-selected Nappa leather, artfully stitched with takumi-style precision dominates most of the landscape. Nissan has integrated a couple of special touches in the form of a unique steering wheel and shift knob trim, special seat embossing, an Alcantara headliner with unique stitching, and Alcantara-wrapped sun visors among other things.
The handcrafted twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine still produces 565hp and 467lb-ft. Nissan has made some upgrades to the engine and mechanicals including new turbochargers, titanium muffler, brake boosters, retuned adaptive suspension and intake manifold.
Along with the Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition, the 2020 model will enter most markets in Premium, Track Edition and the hardcore NISMO variants. Select regions will get the Pure, Prestige and Black models too.
