2018 SEMA Show: 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series Unveiled
Rest assured, John Cena may not be getting one of these 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series limited edition cars.
The Ford GT recently got a production run extension which will see 350 more units being made. And Ford has now unveiled a limited edition 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series which will be part of that bonus production run.
Shedding 18 kg of weight, thanks to an abundant use of carbon-fibre, the limited edition car will be made available to an already approved list of customers. Ford is being extremely cautious to avoid instances of the Ford GT changing hands quickly. We are looking at you, John Cena.
Back to the car, the 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series is lighter because of a handful of improvements. A polycarbonate rear hatch with extra venting, carbon -fiber wheels with titanium nuts and a titanium exhaust system are the key reasons for the weight-loss.
Unveiled at the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the Carbon Series isn’t as track-focused as the Competition Series machine though. Ford chose to retain the air conditioning and infotainment systems, since the limited edition supercar must be comfortable for the owners to drive home after a weekend track day. But the side passenger storage bin and cup holders have been removed.
Customers can choose from red, blue, orange and silver for the center stripe, mirror caps and callipers. Exterior updates include two exposed carbon-fiber stripes with matching A-pillars and lower body panels. Interiors have carbon-fiber trim, special seats with silver stitching, new paddle shifters and bespoke instrument panel badging.
Final owner application process for select global markets will open on Nov 8 and Ford plans to build one 2019 Ford GT Carbon Series each week.
