2018 Geneva Motor Show: Bugatti Chiron Sport
Bugatti Chiron Sport has the world’s first carbon fiber windscreen wiper.
Bugatti has unveiled a more hardcore version of the Chiron at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Chiron Sport is lighter and more driver-focused than the standard car.
To save weight, the Chiron Sport comes equipped with a new exhaust, lightweight wheels and rear window, carbon fiber intercooler cover and a carbon windshield wiper, which is claimed to save around 1.4 kg. As a result, it weighs 18 kg (40 lbs) less than the base model.
On the chassis side, Bugatti has given it 10% stiffer suspension. The steering ratio has also been tweaked for a more responsive setup. Besides, the rear differential now gets torque vectoring that is expected to improve handling. Moreover, thanks to all these changes, it is said to lap the Nardo handling track 5 seconds quicker than the standard model.
The Chiron Sport uses a 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 engine. The same unit has been carried over from the standard Chiron. It produces 1479 hp and 1180 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Despite the weight savings, this hypercar accelerates to 62 mph in 2.5 sec, while 124 mph comes up in 6.5 sec – similar to the standard car.
This sportier Chiron costs approximately $3.26 million.
