2017 Geneva Motor Show: Maybach G650 Landaulet
The Maybach G650 Landaulet is the most luxurious and exclusive G-Class you can buy. It is the last of the current generation of the G-Class off-roader. The limited-edition model will officially debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
How do you create the most bonkers Maybach SUV?
The Maybach G650 Landaulet is based on a 38-year of G-Class platform. However, it’s a last hurrah before a brand new model arrives later this year. What Mercedes have done is take the most extreme version of the G-Class and turn it into a plush millionaire cruiser.
A modified version of the insane G63 6X6 forms the basis for the G650 Landaulet. It measures 5345 mm in length, 2110 mm in width and rises 2335 mm above the ground. Those are some insane proportions that make for a rather obnoxious ride.
It has an overall ground clearance of 450 mm, thanks to the jacked-up suspension and partly due to the portal transmissions at the four corners.
A big SUV needs big power
The Maybach G650 gets the same 6.2-liter bi-turbo V12 that is offered in the normal AMG G65. The engine delivers 630 hp at 5000 rpm and 737 lb-ft of torque from 2300 rpm up to 4300 rpm. A seven-speed automatic transmission delivers the power to all four wheels and features low-range. The drivetrain comprises of heavy duty axles and a four-wheel drive system with three separate differential locks. It rides on massive 22-inch wheels wrapped in 325/55 profile off-road tires.
Maybach G650 Landaulet’s party piece
The best feature of the G650 has to be its folding roof. The soft top offers rear passengers with protection from the elements. It can be folded away behind the rear seats.
The interior of the G650 is focused around the rear passengers. It’s like a high-end limousine with a convertible top and off-road capabilities. The rear seats- of which there are only two can reclined and have massage functions. There are retractable tables which can be deployed to serve food just in case. Also, like every other Maybach, the G650 also has provision for on-board drinks. Rear seat passengers can sit back, relax, sip on expensive wine and enjoy a movie on the twin 10-inch screens.
Not that the front seats are badly equipped. However, the front cabin gets a fixed steel roof and a privacy glass separates it from the rear. The front half of the vehicle is also well appointed with the finest leather.
