BMW will unveil the new 2016 BMW M2 over Periscope later today but we already know the headlines. For starters, the new M2 is the top-of-the-line 2-Series BMW you will soon be able to purchase.

According to Auto Express, the M2 will share the 3.0-liter straight-six cylinder engine from the M235i. That said, performance figures have been completely revised thanks to upgraded pistons and crankshaft from the M4/M3 and more cooling. Unleash the M-fiddled motor and you have 370 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque at your disposal.

This being a proper M-car, BMW has given the 2016 BMW M2 a new gearbox, upgraded brakes, new front and rear axles and the aforementioned engine bits. Buyers will have the option of a six-speed manual or a slick seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Opt for the DCT and 0-60 mph times drop to 4.3 sec. The manual is two-tenths slower to 60 mph.
