2000 hp Lotus Evija X electric hypercar crashes at Goodwood

The Lotus Evija X recently set a lap time of 6 min 24.047 seconds at the Nurburgring. So, hopes were high when Lotus announced they would bring it to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Unfortunately, its first run up the hill climb course did not go to plan.

The Lotus Evija X lined up at the starting line on the first day of the timed shootout. When the flag fell, the driver unleashed all 2000 hp, leaving a cloud of tire smoke behind. However, instead of disappearing into the distance, he lost control and crashed into the barriers, just a few feet from the start.

The Evija X is a hardcore track-focused version of the Evija road car. It has an exposed carbon fibre body with a revised aero package, designed to generate optimal downforce. The Goodwood Hill Climb would have been an ideal test of its capabilities. Hopefully, if the damage isn’t too serious, we will see the Evija X set a competitive time over the weekend.

The Evija X is powered by four electric motors – one at each corner. This setup generates 2011 hp and 1257 lb-ft of torque. The standard Evija can reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph.
