Lamborghini Urus to Debut at 2017 Shanghai Auto Show?
Recent reports suggest Lamborghini could be planning to launch the Urus SUV at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show in April. This comes days after an interview with Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali in which he confirmed that prototypes of the sporty SUV will go into production in a couple of months.
The Lamborghini Urus will be the Italian brands second SUV after the LM002 from the late 1980s. The new model will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform- the same architecture that underpins the Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and has recently given us the Bentley Bentayga. That said, the Urus is expected to drive and feel like a Lamborghini.
Moreover, the Lamborghini Urus will also be the company’s first hybrid model. Initially though, the Urus will be offered with a conventional powertrain. While, a hybrid version could arrive by 2020. Lamborghini plans to sell as many SUVs as its total supercar sales combined.
The Urus concept was first showcased at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. Now, four years later, we would soon see first prototypes on the roads. Prospective owners can expect to receive pre-launch invites in the coming months.
