Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept packs 591hp
Audi has built a supercar but it’s not an R8. I am talking about the Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept and while it may be an Audi TT for the less informed, adding a few more words like Clubsport and Turbo to its name turns it into a 591 hp, turbocharged, all-wheel drive supercar built out of lightweight carbon fiber.
The headlines got me excited about this car and that’s what made me sit through the complete news report. Audi has built this one-off concept for the Wörthersee Tour in Austria which starts on May 13th. On the outside, the Audi TT Clubsport Turbo looks almost like a DTM racer and that seems like the right dress for the occasion, since the engine under the hood packs racing car levels of performance.
It is a 2.5-liter TFSI unit that sits under the carbon fiber wrapped body. Instead of conventional turbochargers, Audi has employed an electrically driven biturbo compressor that hikes the overall output to 591 hp and 479.4 lb-ft @ 3000-7000 rpm. The cabin is complete with a 5-point racing harness, titanium roll cage and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Thanks to its lightweight construction, the Audi TT Clubsport Turbo weighs just 1396 kg. This also reflects in the 0-60 mph acceleration times. It completes the sprint in 3.6 sec and has top speed of 192 mph, claims Audi. Brakes consists of carbon ceramics at all four corners.
